Practicalities > How to get here

Grenoble does not have its own airport. If you need to fly, we recommend flying either to Lyon or to Geneva and taking the train or bus from there. Paris is also an option, but we do not recommend it.

From Lyon:

There is an international airport (Lyon Saint-Exupéry), two train stations (Lyon Part-Dieu and Lyon Perrache), and a bus station (Lyon Perrrache) in Lyon. Here you will find instructions for getting to Grenoble from these points.

Note that buses are pleasant and are just as fast as trains. Please keep in mind that after a certain time of day, there are no trains or buses to Grenoble, so it is preferable to check the timetables in advance.

Coming from the airport:

There are regular trains and buses from the airport to Grenoble. The railway station and bus station are easily accessible from all terminals of the airport.

Train tickets can be purchased from one of the machines at the railway station, and both train and bus tickets can be purchased on the SNCF website.

Coming from Lyon Perrache or Lyon Part-Dieu:

Lyon Perrache includes both a bus station and a train station. Trains and buses leave Perrache regularly for Grenoble. Part-Dieu is a train station only. Trains leave Part-Dieu regularly for Grenoble.

Train tickets can be purchased from one of the machines at the railway station, and train and bus tickets can be purchased on the SNCF website.

Both stations are easily accessible from wherever you are in Lyon by means of buses, trams, and the metro. You can find information regarding public transportation in Lyon here.

From Geneva:

There are regular trains and buses from Geneva train station to Grenoble.

To get from the airport to the train station, you are entitled to a free ticket, which can be retrieved from a machine located in the baggage claim area.

Train tickets for the trip to Grenoble can be purchased from one of the machines at the railway station, and train and bus tickets can be purchased on the SNCF website.

From Paris:

As the ESPP is happening during the month leading up to the 2024 Olympic Games, it would be preferable to avoid Paris and instead travel via Lyon or Geneva.

If you do decide to travel via Paris, note that the only way to get into Paris from Beauvais airport is to take the dedicated shuttle, the tickets for which can be purchased from a machine.

In most cases, you will have to take public transportation to get around Paris. You can find all the relevant information here.

Buses depart from the Bercy bus station, some of which go directly to Grenoble with no connexion.

All trains that go directly to Grenoble depart from Gare de Lyon.

There are also train and bus itineraries that include a connection in Lyon.

Train tickets can be purchased from one of the machines at the railway station, and train and bus tickets can be purchased on the SNCF website.
